Top Rank Presents The WAR - Leonard vs Hearns. Sugar Ray Leonard's 1989 defence of the WBC World Super-Middleweight title against Thomas 'Hit Man' Hearns was as controversial as it was thrilling.

Hearns, the former five times world champion, was seeking to avenge his earlier defeat by Leonard, a fight which had haunted him for over eight years. Sugar Ray, regarded as one of the greatest middleweights of all time, was out to prove that, at the age of 33, he was still a worthy title holder.

The champion was well favoured to hold on to his crown; in training Sugar Ray looked the fitter, the sharper of the two. Hearns, however, was fired up for the fight and confounded the critics who said he had neither the punching power nor the stamina to survive twelve rounds with Sugar Ray.
