Certainly not querulous Victor Meldrew (Richard Wilson), one of tree-lined suburbia's perennial complainers, or his long suffering wife Margaret (Annette Crosbie). But there's one thing to remember in the Meldrew household - whatever can go wrong always does and it usually spells disaster for Victor...

Stuck in the Bank Holiday traffic with Margaret and Jean for 4-1/2 temper fraying hours, Victor's pretty hacked off. What with this faulty seat-belt (the garage mechanics never do their job properly), raging hunger (Jean's forgotten the smoky bacon crisps) and a splitting headache (caused by shouting too much), he's had more than enough for one day. What a waste of time when he could be sitting at home cutting his toenails.

Neighbour, Mr Swaney, is back from his holidays, sporting a new orange tan and a gift for the Meldrews - a scorpion paperweight. Could it really be an omen of bad luck as legend has it? Victor's not having any of it. Until the roof starts to leak and a cow turns up in his garden...

Victor's been rushed to casualty, caught fleas and started a new job - a typical week in the life of suburbia's one man vigilante. Whatever could happen next? Cue a visit from the infamous Ronnie and Mildred, armed with photographs and a tin of assorted biscuits...
