10 Things You Didn't Know About The Assassin With Bridget Fonda...

  1. Point of No Return AKA The Assassin was supposed to launch a franchise. Things didn’t work out that way and as such we are left with this stand alone movie. A sweet Hollywood remake of the wildly popular French cult hit “La Femme Nikita"

  1. Several actresses were considered for the role of delinquent Assassin Maggie. Winona Ryder and Jodie Foster both turned it down. Halle Berry was politicking for the part but it never came to fruition, as such for The Assassin Bridget Fonda became the gun toting leading girl.

  1. Bridget Fonda’s Assassin role was one of four films she completed in less than two years. The actress decided to go for this intense action packed role of the remake of “La Femme Nikita" as a matter of course, Bridget was not only the perfect professional on set for this role, she regularly completed two, three, sometimes four films a year spanning many genres.

  1. In Europe and Asia, the film was retitled "The Assassin", after it "underperformed" in the U.S. with its original title “Point Of No Return”. Warner Brothers felt the new title would help sell the action element. We think they were right, it continues to be recognized as a cult hit today.

  1. Together with the earlier re-release of "My Baby Just Cares for Me" in 1982, the film helped bring Nina Simone back into the public limelight and made her better known with a younger audience. The film score was also composed by Hans Zimmer which certainly didn’t hurt.

  1. While the Guns used in this movies haven’t commanded the $100,000 Le Femme Nikkita’s Firearms made at Auction our Bridget Fonda The Assassin certainly boasted quite an arsenal, a Smith & Wesson 659, a Walther P5  and a black Walther PPK plus a rather nifty Hammerli 280 with an extra magazine to name but a few. Then of course the iconic Anschutz .22 LR target rifle waiting for Maggie under the sink in New Orleans, despite being a bolt-action rifle, the rifle manages to fire semi-automatic shots, only in the movies.

  1. The Blu House where Maggie Hayward (Bridget Fonda) rented an apartment upon arriving in Venice Beach was also used to film LA Story with Steve Martin as a Colonic Irrigation centre, it's been used as an Office for Nike, a Medical Marijuana Centre and even utilized to shoot an episode of Jerry Springer. It is also reported that Jim Morrison and Charlie Chaplin lived on the premises for a while, not together of course.

  1. Fast Forward to 2022 and The Blu beachfront house, which boasts three bedrooms, one bath, 2,656 square feet of living space, a 1,500-square-foot deck, and a tiny 0.10-acre plot of land, serves as the headquarters for Snapchat– at what is apparently a rate of $20,000 a month, Venice beach is still a premo location.

  1. First appearing on our screens when she was just 5 years old in her fathers movie Easy Rider, Bridget Fonda stuck to her guns as a movie actress all the way and even turned down what became the wildly popular TV show Ally McBeal, for which she was offered the lead role.

  1. Bridget Fonda reported shortly after filming Point Of No Return “I was raised without any religion and I sort of had to come up with my own ideas about God and life. So when a pattern emerges it’s just sort of jarring. It defies known science. I keep trying to make sense of it, but I can’t. It’s a weird thing. . . .” . Bridget was a perfect choice for the role and we give her a Golden Class Movies Ten out of Ten for her performance throughout the 1993 hit “Point Of No Return”
