A night of petty crime turns disastrously wrong for young Bobby Lipscomb and his two brothers when they are involved in the killing of a local deputy Although technically still a juvenile Bobby can be tried for murder and sentenced to life a fate worse than death as the state prison has a horrific reputation. From the moment he arrives Bobby has to fight for his life amid a terrifying climate of sudden violence and the threat of rape. But Bobby has hope, in the sultry Laura Stephens, a social worker fighting to keep juveniles out of adult jails. Tension rises as Bobby loses decision after decision to a hostile legal system and Laura becomes convinced that she must rescue Bobby from a monstrous nightmare.
