On the eve of the 21st Century Man has conquered the moon and established Moonbase Alpha as a self supporting scientific experimentation centre. But Man has also used the moon as a nuclear waste dump, and a massive nuclear explosion sends the moon, and Moonbase Alpha, out of Earth's orbit.

Destined to travel throughout space and time, the 300 Alpha survivors are on course for strange new worlds, alien cultures and the greatest adventures of their lives.

Koenig's plans to relocate Alphan survivors on the apparently 'friendly planet Terra Nova, are halted by the mysterious reappearance of Lee, Dr Russells husband - presumed dead for years. Lee's warning that Terra Nova is not what it seems puts Koenig and his crew in mortal danger.

Helena, Koenig and Bergman encounter Companion, an old man who is the servant of a spaceship which is a living machine. When Companion dies the craft demands that Helena and Koenig replace him, and a grim battle for survival takes place.
