CHINA - part one concentrates on the mountain regions to the west of Peking. The video begins at the busy mainline station of Xian and captures a typical day of Pacific class R.M. passenger movements. Moving further west we climb high into the Qilian mountains above Lanzhou to witness the mighty QJ's working hard on the steep climb with Peking bound passenger and freight trains. The next major obstacle is the daunting double horseshoe curve at Zhongwei, where double QJ's drag their trains out of the Yellow River valley onto the Gobi desert plateau - an unrelenting 40 mile thrash. Finally a crisp frosty morning is savoured near the junction town of Yinchuan. A beautiful sight with glorious steam effects. The original sound track (no dubbed locomotive effects) is complemented by professional narration with full technical details supplied by Mr David Wardale. This dynamic 60 min. video includes some breathtaking dawn and delightful sunset scenes that produce a lasting tribute to the modern steam locomotive.
