Ron Howard directs an all-star cast in this exciting action-thriller depicting the life-and- death struggles of today's firefighters. Stephen McCaffrey (Kurt Russell) and his younger brother Brian (William Baldwin) are two feuding siblings carrying on an heroic family tradition in the Chicago fire department, one of the toughest in the country. Hot-headed Stephen is so relentlessly committed to firefighting that he drives Brian out of active duty and into a less dangerous department.

Assisting arson investigator Donald Rimgale (Robert De Niro), Brian becomes involved in solving a puzzling series of arson attacks, each ignited by explosive phenomena known as backdrafts. Before the smoke clears, love affairs are rekindled and lives are shattered as the McCaffrey brothers fight to resolve their differences and solve the mystery. Co-starring Scott Glenn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rebecca DeMornay and Donald Sutherland, and featuring breathtaking cinematography by Mikael Salomon, BACKDRAFT shows you fire as you've never seen it before.
